The resources on this Earth are being rapidly consumed by its inhabitants. We as citizens of this Earth need to be more proactive in doing all we can to be more eco-friendly and responsible when it comes to the consumption of those resources.
Here are a few quick, easy ways you can begin to “go green”–
- Buy and use energy-saving light bulb in your home. Fluorescent bulbs last up to 12 times longer and use 2/3 less energy than regular light bulbs.
- Turn off lights in your home when not in use. Lighting makes up about 11% of your electric bill.
- Conserve water by only washing full loads of clothes and dishes. Take showers instead of bathing in the tub.
- Buy locally grown produce from your local farmers market. This will reduce the cost of fuel used in getting the produce to consumers.
- Take your electronics off stand-by. If you have appliances and other electronics that use stand-by electricity, you can save up to $200 per year.
- Recycle plastic, glass, aluminum, paper, old tires, etc. Purchase products made from recycled materials.
- Turn down the heat in your home during the winter. Lowering the thermostat by one degree can save as much as $100 per year.
- Save a tree by paying your bills on-line. Use e-mail instead of writing letters. Ask to be removed from mailing lists so you can reduce junk mail.
- Buy refills for cleaning products, shampoo and beverages instead of tossing out the old containers.
- Help clean up the polluted air by car pooling, walking, riding a bicycle or using public transportation.
Just follow these simple rules and you can make a significant impact on saving the resources of our Earth.

Recycle bags are everywhere. Stores and entrepreneurs alike are cashing in on the green movement to rid the world of disposable bags. From large retailers such as Wal-Mart to smaller grocery chains, it seems as if everyone has green reusable bags for sale. Recycle bags are becoming more popular than ever. What is uncommon, however, in the world of reusable bags is their use in everyday life.
Sure most green goers are quick to grab their recycle bags when headed to the store, but what about when they go to the mall? The mission to stop the use of disposable bags is not limited to grocery purchases. Consumers can and should consider utilizing their environment bags for all their shopping needs.
Recycle bags are designed to carry just about anything. There are even bags made to conceal purchases you may not want the entire world knowing you made. Sure, you won’t get to leave the store with hip bag that screams “GAP” but you will be doing your part to save the planet. Besides, if you are really into making a statement, you can purchase a green bag that displays a message or even better, know that you look cool because you are saving the planet and stimulating the economy all at once.
Finally, while most of us plan a trip to the grocery store, retail shopping can be a bit more spontaneous. This makes the use of recycle bags a little more challenging. To ensure that you always have a bag readily available, keep some in your car or purse. If you do happen to forget, consider forgoing the disposable bag all together. Do you really need a bag to carry a pair of shoes in a box? By taking this approach you are still doing your part.
