The world is going through a major energy crisis in the present day scenario. And, if we continue to consume energy at the present rate, there will be nothing left for the future generations. So, it would be only wise if you take some steps to save energy at home.

The best and the best thing that you can do to save energy at home is plug off all the appliances when they are not in use. Even if you aren’t using the appliance but they are plugged on, have a tendency to use some energy. So,it is crucial that you remove the plugs diligently after you have switched off the appliance.

It is really important to realize that it’s the electrical appliances that make use of the energy to the maximum possible level. There are plenty of appliances that will consume energy much more than you can potentially imagine. Some such appliances are iron, electric rice cooker, air conditioning system and lots more. So it is sensible to use these appliances in a satisfactory demeanour.Using them judiciously can help you in saving loads of energy on everyday basis.

For example, you do not need to turn on the A.C. whenever you want your room cooled down. Instead, open the windows and let in the fresh air that will be just as valuable in doing so. Also, when you’re using the electric iron, make certain you iron out all your clothes in a single session. This can also help save energy since you will not have to heat the iron with each new set of garments.

Look for alternative styles of entertainment. Playing games on the Personal computer or watching television is not the only way to keep yourself entertained. You could play board games with the entire family. Consider taking up any of your favorite hobby such as painting or gardening. This can help you in keeping yourself entertained and that too without using up energy.

Using water judiciously is another thing that you can do to save energy. Do the obvious like closing the taps when you’re still cleaning your teeth. If your taps are dripping or there is some leakage in the pipes, ensure that you check it at the earliest. Also, attempt to watch all of clothes on the same day. You might spare a specific day of the week. This will help you in saving large quantity of water.

Consider selecting solar cooking. You do not have to burn the stove each time you want to cook something. Get a solar cooker and consider cooking your meals out in the open. You will not just save energy but also learn a new cooking technique.Besides, solar cooking keeps the nutritional quotient of the food intact which helps push the final flavor of the food.

So what are you waiting for? Simply employ the formerly discussed tips and be assured that you will easily be able to save lots of energy and hence sail through energy crunch in no time.

Sustainability in Easy Terms

How do you define sustainability? There will be a wide array of answers if you ask that question to a few different people. Many people will define it as not messing up the planet for future generations. Sustainability has as much to do with making good lifestyle choices, supporting your local village or community and enhancing long term economic strength as it has to do with being environmentally conscious and aware. ‘Sustainable’, as opposed to the term ‘Green’ promotes a much wider ranging set of values and objectives than purely environmental protection.

If you take a look on Google, you’ll find many definitions around the term. These include:

To keep in existence, to nourish and maintain. To prolong.

A state or a process that can be maintained indefinitely.

To be able to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

This really shows us that, as with all things, if you fail to take care of something it becomes unreliable and eventually prone to failure. Humans have certainly not looked after the planet that well, but a question that we are all asking is, ‘Can the damage be reversed?’

Global warming is one of the big questions and debates at the moment. The cynics deny that it is related to human activity, stating that it is just a cyclical event, many of which have occurred over the course of the planets history. The proponents of the ‘global warming’ hypothesis state that is is humans that are responsible, emissions of carbon dioxide, the primary ‘ greenhouse gas’ have created a gas layer that reduces the ability of the planet to breath and release heat.

Whichever is correct, and it’s certainly likely that both are to some extent, I feel that advocating the ‘precautionary principle’ is surely the best way to deal with the problem. The ‘precautionary principle’ involves taking action anyway because we are unsure if our activities have caused the problem. It’s a ‘better safe than sorry’ approach. Reducing greenhouse emissions is going to do the planet good, so lets play it safe and take some action.

We are unlikely to know in our lifetimes whether taking this action will avert environmental disaster, but I know that on a personal level, I’d feel better to know that we made some attempt, rather than just discarding the idea completely.
